Dead bolt switch contacts

The dead bolt switch contact is conceived for doors or windows in and on buildings. We recommend installation in buildings If the dead bolt switch contact is installed outside a building (e.g., garden door, courtyard door), please ensure that weather (e.g., frost) and increased danger of pollution do not damage its functioning. Possible error sources while installing it outside buildings can be the solid freezing of moveable mechanical parts.

While performing subsequent jobs on doors or windows with built-in dead bolt switch contacts, please ensure that the mechanism is protected against dirt and pollution e.g., iron particles while filing the catch, or colour while re-varnishing the section. To protect the moveable mechanical parts, the lever must be installed in the direction of the floor.

The pre-adjusted switching point can be displaced easily while performing installation in ferro-magnetic conducting material, e.g., steel doors,  Please check the function after the installation.

While installation the dead bolt switch contact, we recommend that a conducting loop be left in the section. The conducting loop simplifies dismantling.

If you use the dead bolt switch contact with adjustable switching point (e.g., type 100 13 30), please ensure that the screw sleeve is fixed after the switching point has been adjusted (e.g., with secondary adhesive). This will prevent the switching point from being displaced during the installation.

Electrical values

Please observe the specified electrical values of the data sheet. These specifications are maximum values and should never be exceeded, even for a short duration. That is why passage testers with in-built glow lamps should never be used to check dead bolt switch contacts. The current that flows into these devices through the dead bolt switch contact is so high that under certain circumstances, it can be destroyed completely. Use only multiple multimeters for testing or checking.

Contact protection

VdS burglar alarm systems are designed to activate dead bolt switch contacts and they do not require any further contact protection. Contect protection is meaningful if dead bolt switch contacts are used outside plants/systems that are not designed for reed contacts.
Dead bolt switch contacts that are mounted on reed contact base are sensitive to very high voltage and power loads. As reed contacts open their contact very fast, very high self-induction voltages are generated during deactivation of inductive and capacitive switching devices such as e.g., relays. The dead bolt switch contact must be protected in this case. More information is available in this context in the Chapter entitled “Technical info about magnetic contacts” in the rubric “Contact protection and protection switching for reed contacts.”
